M42 High Speed Steel
M42 high speed tool steel manufacturers and suppliers,supplied in round rods,square bars,flat bars,plates,sheets and blocks.
M42 HSS is a cobalt-molybdenum high speed steel with an additional 8% cobalt.It achieves a higher hardness and superior red-hardness compared to more conventional high-speed steels.The hardness can up to 70HRC in the high heat treated.M42 also offers excellent cutting performance and excellent wear resistance.It is less prone to chipping when used for interrupted cuts and costs less when compared to the same tool made of carbide.M42 high speed steel is often identified by HSS-Co.
1.Annealing is recommended after hot working and before re hardening
2.Heat the temperature to 850°C at a rate of no more than 220°C per hour.
3.Hold at the temperature for one hour per inch of thickness(at least two hours).
4.Cool slowly in the furnace or in air to ambient temperature.
5.The resultant hardness achieved should be Max 269HB or lower.
1.Hardening in a vacuum or atmosphere furnace, or in a properly rectified salt bath is recommended.
2.Pre heat thoroughly to 820-870°C, transfer to the high temperature salt bath or furnace.
3.Heat to the final hardening temperature of 1160-1180°C in salt, or 1180-1190°C in atmosphere or vacuum furnaces，quench without further soaking into salt at 540-595°C or warm oil,then complete the quench in air.
1.Tempering must be done immediately after quenching.
2.Heat thoroughly and uniformly to the tempering temperature of 510-620°C.
3.Hold at the temperature for at least two hours (one hour per inch of the total thickness).
4.Triple tempering is strongly recommended for M42 high speed steel.
